Sunderland boss Jack Ross has been talking about the upcoming transfer window, revealing he'll be perfectly happy if there are no comings or goings on Wearside at all.

His side strengthened their promotion credentials with a fine 4-2 win against Barnsley in midweek, keeping up the pressure on leaders Portsmouth. They're looking good value for an immediate return to the Championship following last season's capitulation.

Ross was one of the more active managers in the summer, but he's now happy and settled with his side and wouldn't be too concerned if nothing changed at all come the end of January.

"If you were to say to me that I can't do any business in January, I'd be quite happy," Ross was quoted by the Chronicle. "That's in or out."

"I'd be quite content because I have a good squad and it has proven itself. You don't do what they have done without being good and being able to handle the league. So I'm not anticipating us doing huge amounts in January."

His side are in FA Cup action against Walsall this weekend, but are on the verge of welcoming back Duncan Watmore and Charlie Wyke, both of whom will be like new signings after missing the start of the season.

Coupled with the younger players coming through, the Black Cats have a strong squad at their disposal.

The Verdict

This Sunderland side looks very promising indeed, with lots of attacking options and a good, solid spine to the team. They need Lee Cattermole back, but there's little evidence of a big winter of spending for Ross.

He might bring one in and send one out, but he picked his hand before the season and looks likely to stick, not twist and gamble everything.
