Sunderland manager Jack Ross has given another update on the club's plans for the January transfer window with just under two weeks to go.

In total, 13 new faces arrived at the Stadium of Light during the summer window as Ross and new owner Stewart Donald looked to reshape the ethos of the club.

"I don't think we'll be busy," Ross told his pre-match press conference with regards to the January transfer window.

"But that doesn't mean we won't be looking to strengthen one or two areas."

The Black Cats face a tough test this weekend when they travel to league-leaders Portsmouth on Saturday as they look to make up ground on Kenny Jackett's side.

Sunderland currently sit in third place in League One with 20 matches played but just one point behind Luton Town who currently occupy the final automatic promotion spot.

Ross's side are also unbeaten in their last 12 league games, putting them in a very strong position to push for promotion through the second half of the season.

The verdict

I think this is sensible from Ross.

The club's biggest failings in the past has been throwing big fees and big wages in a blind panic and it has never worked.

They have a great squad and a few tweaks here and there will be all that is needed.
