Sunderland boss Jack Ross revealed that the Black Cats could be without influential midfielder Dylan McGeouch for tomorrow's trip to Burton Albion.

However, there was more positive news, with Denver Hume and Jack Baldwin both overcoming slight knocks to be in contention to play at the Pirelli Stadium, whilst Aiden McGeady is getting closer to featuring this season.

Yet, the potential absence of former Hibs man McGeouch will worry Ross, who told the official site where the players were in terms of their fitness:

"We had a couple of minor issues this week with Denver Hume and Jack Baldwin. They both trained today, but we still have a slight concern over Dylan McGeouch."

It's still unclear whether Ireland international McGeady will play after suffering a calf injury before pre-season, but the manager confirmed he has been working with the main group recently:

"Aiden’s joined in with training this week and he’s been out for the best part of four months, so it’s taken a while.

I feel as if him joining in accelerates his progress quicker than if he was working on his own, so it’s been quite tough, but he’s had no setbacks from that."

The Black Cats are unbeaten in League One so far, picking up 15 points from their opening seven games.

The Verdict

It would be a blow if McGeouch is missing, but he has been injured earlier in the season and the side have picked up results.

The Black Cats have a big squad and Ross will be delighted that virtually everyone is available for selection after a tough start.

Bringing McGeady back into the team will also be a massive bonus as he has the quality and skill to make a massive impact in the third-tier, but they won't want to rush him back after a lengthy lay-off.
