Jack Ross has named three players that could leave Sunderland before the September 2nd deadline on loan, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.

The Black Cats have a thriving Under 23 squad with lots of exciting young players waiting for their chance in the senior game. Having seen Elliot Embleton head out to Grimsby on loan and come back with first team intentions, there is a desire to get more of their talent into clubs for the autumn period.

Jack Bainbridge, Jake Hackett, and Jack Diamond could all be set for a short spell away from the Academy of Light as part of their development, according to the former St Mirren boss.

After confirming that trio Elliot Embleton, Benji Kimpioka and Bali Mumba will be remaining with the club despite turning out for the Under 23 side yesterday, he spoke of the players he could see being allowed to leave.

“There are others, like Jack Diamond and Jake Hackett, Jack Bainbridge, all of those at the higher end of the U23s, they need to go out on loan and benefit from that.

“We’ve seen that it helps players and they’re the ones who would benefit most from it and would be the ones that could potentially go out between now and the end of the month.”

Ross has also suggested in the past that former Chelsea man Ruben Sammut could be sent out on loan after signing in the summer.

The Verdict

It's no surprise that the players listed are being considered for a loan spell away from the club. Diamond and Bainbridge are two who have just been on the cusp of the first team squad but are unable to break into it right now.

League Two, or maybe the National League, would afford them the time to be around a proper dressing room, fighting for promotion or against relegation.

Football is very different at a senior level to the Under 23 setup; results matter and a whole community feels the joy and pain.

Players need that emotion and motivation when they step onto the pitch. It helps them hone their skills and develop as individuals as well as players.
