Derby County have had an eventful season so far, although since the turn of the year the club has been in excellent form and they find themselves just five points off the play-offs at the moment.

There are just nine games left of their campaign, and the Rams will be hoping to build on this current season if they don't manage the unlikely task of sneaking into the top six.

One player who hasn't had the best of seasons is forward Jack Marriott, there was a lot expected after he moved to the club from Peterborough almost two years ago but he hasn't lived up to expectations, and has failed to lead the line when called upon.

Marriott is a particular type of footballer, and that's because the bottom-line is that he's a goalscorer, that's what he's best at in any team and during his stint at Peterborough he wasn't required to do much more on the pitch, but his only job was to be in the right place at the right time to slot the ball into the back of the net.

This season, the forward has netted just twice for the Rams despite appearing in 29 games during the Championship campaign, that isn't a good enough record to be a top striker in the division and Phillip Cocu clearly doesn't rate the forward who has been dropped for Chris Martin and Martyn Waghorn throughout.

Cocu often requires more from his players, and needs transitional play even in the final third from players such as Marriott, this isn't going to happen whilst he's at the club and the 25-year-old should seriously think about leaving the club in order to gain more first-team football.

After his heroic play-off exploits, some would argue that he hasn't been given a fair chance in the side and it's easy to see why people would comment that. A change is needed for the forward to get back to his previous scoring ways otherwise he's going to sit on the bench for much of his future at Derby.
