Jack Harrison has admitted that he thrives on the competition for starting places within the Leeds United squad.

The 22-year-old has been a key player for Leeds this season and has started all four of their Championship matches so far - scoring in the 3-1 win at Bristol City in their opening game.

The winger was an important player for Leeds last season and his performances while on loan from Manchester City convinced head coach Marcelo Bielsa to resign him on another season-long loan this summer.

There is plenty of competition for starting places within the Leeds squad at the moment, with the likes of Harrison, Pablo Hernandez, Helder Costa and Jack Clarke all capable of playing on the wing.

However, Harrison has insisted it is a good thing to have competition within the squad and has admitted that knowing one of his teammates could take his place in the side drives him on.

Harrison was speaking to the media at a press conference alongside Bielsa ahead of the Championship game against Stoke City tomorrow.

"It's important to have that competition for places," said Harrison, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"We always know there is someone there to come in. It's great to have each other pushing. It's a good thing to have."

Leeds are currently top of the Championship table on goal difference after taking ten points from their opening four matches and Harrison will be hoping to continue his fine start to the season against Stoke at the weekend.

The Verdict

Harrison was an important player for Leeds in the Championship last season, although he did frustrate fans at Elland Road at times with some inconsistent performances.

However, he's made a very encouraging start to the new campaign and has really impressed Leeds fans with the improvements that he's made to his game.

Leeds have got some very talented attacking players and they've all got a good amount of experience in the Championship too, so Harrison has done extremely well to keep his place in the team.

The winger will be looking to continue his impressive start to the new season against Stoke at the weekend.
