On-loan Leeds United winger Jack Harrison says his side must be prepared for the challenge of facing former teammate Pontus Jansson at Elland Road on Wednesday.

Jansson left Leeds for Brentford over the course of the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £5.5million, following an apparent disagreement with manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The two sides are now set to face off on Wednesday, bringing Jansson up against his former side for the first time since his departure, and while Harrison is looking forward to the reunion, the Leeds man has been keen to stress that he and his teammates cannot let that get in the way of getting the win.

Speaking to Leeds Live the winger, who also spent last season at Leeds alongside Jansson while on loan from Manchester City, said: "It’ll be good to see him again and good to face him.

"Everyone knows how much of an impact he had for us last year and we've got prepare ourselves for that and find a way around it."

Leeds currently sit top of the Championship table with seven points from three league games, while Brentford are 12th in the early standings, having won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening games of the season.

In total, Jansson made 120 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, scoring nine goals, after joining from Italian side Torino in the summer of 2016.

The Verdict

The Jansson factor will certainly add an interesting subplot to this meeting.

You feel that both Leeds and Jansson will be keen to get one over on one another, particularly with this game coming so soon after the Swede's departure.

The centre back became something of a cult figure at Elland Road for the passion and commitment he showed to the cause, and it will be fascinating to see just what the Leeds faithful make of that approach when it is against them, rather than for them.

Add to that the fact that both of these sides are expected to push towards the top end of the table as it is this season, and this looks set to be an intriguing early-season encounter.
