Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has given his verdict on the midweek performance of teammate John McGinn.

The stand-in club captain was replying to an official club tweet that asked fans to describe McGinn’s two-goal performance in a word.

Taking to Twitter to reply, Grealish opted for: “Wonderful”.

The former Hibs man was the hero on the night, levelling things in the seventh minute after Jack Colback had given the hosts the lead.

And the Scot doubled his tally to edge Dean Smith’s side in front just seven minutes later, firing home brilliantly from long range.

Martin O’Neill’s side pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half, but on the hour mark centre-back Hause made the points safe with his first goal for Villa.

It is a result that made it three wins on the bounce and takes Smith’s side to within just two points of the Championship’s play-off places as they look to finally return to the Premier League.

The verdict

It is easy to see why Villa’s form has been on the up since Grealish’s return.

He is an outstanding talent but is also clearly a brilliant personality to have in the dressing room and someone all of his teammates clearly admire and respect.

With him fit and firing, the Villains have a very real shot at promotion.
