According to The Daily Star, Jaap Stam will stay at Reading even if they lose the play-off final.

Jaap Stam has exceeded all expectations so far and guided the Royals to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final.

His side - who are very well drilled and disciplined - are on the cusp of promotion to the Premier League after narrowly and effectively beating a much-fancied Fulham team in the semi-finals.

Now it is just David Wagner's Huddersfield Town that stands between Reading and the top flight with the two sides set to clash in a mouth-watering tie on bank holiday Monday.

After Reading appointed Jaap Stam last summer, there were question marks over whether he would succeed.

The former Manchester United man had never been the manager of a senior professional side and had never coached in England.

But his effective style has earned him plaudits and he has emerged as a target for other clubs with one year left to run on his current deal.

However, the Dutchman said:

"I still have a contract over here, I love working with this team and these players.

“It would be great if we could make it to the Premier League, if not we are still in the Championship and still have a good team and a nice club.

"I’m happy with where we are at the moment.

“I’ve spoken to the new owners a couple of times, they are very straightforward and very hands off.

"They support me and my team."
