Reading manager Jaap Stam has had his say on rumours that director of football Brian Tevreden could be heading to Derby County, insisting “if he goes it’s a pity,” reports reliable journalist Anthony Smith.

Derby are keen on taking Tevreden to the Pride Park Stadium to replace their own director of football, Chris Evans, who lost his job along with manager Steve McClaren on Sunday evening- although there is not believed to have been any contact between the two clubs.

Speaking to the press about the rumours, Stam said: “We have a very good partnership. If he goes it's a pity, we will have to find someone else.”

Stam and Tevreden’s partnership has seen them recruit well during their time at the Madejski Stadium, with Reading’s squad amongst the top-six and challenging for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship.

Derby have begun their rebuilding process this morning, following McClaren and Evans’ departures, with Gary Rowett taking over as manager at the Pride Park Stadium.
