Reading boss Jaap Stam has revealed his transfer plans for the upcoming window, telling journalists that the club will look into the loan market, but will not bring in players just to make up the numbers.

The Royals have been resurgent as of late, and following a poor start to the season, appear to be showing signs of the form that saw them to the playoff final last season.

Defeat to Ipswich Town last time out was their first defeat in five, and Stam will look to bounce back this weekend when the Royals welcome struggling Burton Albion to The Madejski.

The Berkshire-based side are in need of reinforcements however, and with supporters keen to see new faces at the club in the new year, it appears Stam is on the lookout for fresh talent.

Wokingham Sport journalist Tom Crocker revealed the manager’s intentions on Twitter, and fans will hope Stam may already have a player or two lined up for potential loan deals.

The Verdict

Reading need a mid-season boost if they are to mount an unlikely bid for the playoffs, and this could certainly be provided through the addition of new faces.

With the club looking unlikely to spend following Stam’s admission, the loan market will be utilised, with a plethora of players sure to be available from Premier League sides in the new year.

Reading could perhaps do with another striker and defender, and Stam will rely on his links within the game and his scouting network to find players ready to make an impact at the club.

Quality, and not quantity appears to be the Dutchman’s aim in the new year, and Reading fans can expect a couple of new signings when the window opens for business.
