Reading face a tough task this weekend as Wolves visit the Madejski Stadium, however Jaap Stam insists his side won’t fear playing the league leaders.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have won five of their past six games and have played some excellent football along the way. The high-profile additions of Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota have settled immediately and Wolves look the team to beat.
Yet, Reading can be confident themselves after recording convincing wins against Nottingham Forest and Derby in their previous two games.
And, speaking to journalist Courtney Friday ahead of the game, the ex-Manchester United player acknowledged Wolves’ strengths but was looking forward to the fixture.
“We are absolutely not scared of facing Wolves – everyone can beat everyone. They’ve built a completely new team and spent a lot of money. They have a quality team with lots of energy. We want to measure ourselves with Wolves.”
Despite their excellent previous results, the Royals are still down in 18th position after their slow start and will need to put together a consistent run if they’re to match last seasons achievement of making the top six.
Reading fans will appreciate Jaap Stam’s comments and certainly wouldn’t have expected anything different from their manager.
Whilst Wolves are clearly the standout team in the league, they’re lost games already this season and are beatable.
It will be a tough game for both teams, but Reading are beginning to show signs of last seasons form, but Saturday will be a serious test of how much they have improved this season.
