Izzy Brown's Leeds United career came to an end last night as they missed out on promotion after going down 4-2 to Derby at Elland Road.

Having been front-runners for promotion for most of the season, the semi-final elimination will be a tough blow for the Whites' supporters to take. They've seemed to be set for a return to the Premier League, but will have to wait at least another year.

Brown is likely to be back in the top flight next season, he'll return to Chelsea after his loan spell. He's sent a heart-felt goodbye to Leeds fans via his Instagram account this morning.

He's apologised for not playing as much as he would have liked during the season, claiming 'that's football'. He thanks the supporters, telling them they'll always have a place in his heart and hoping they'll get back where they belong next year.

Brown joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea, but arrived injured. His rehabilitation took place at Leeds and it was hoped he'd play a significant role as the season wore on.

His recuperation took longer than anticipated and he made just two appearances, a nine-minute cameo against QPR in February and two minutes at the tail end of last night's defeat.

The Verdict

It's such a shame he wasn't able to get fit sooner and you have to wonder if there is a problem with conditioning at Leeds. So many of their players spent time out of the side and ultimately, that cost them.

Izzy Brown didn't featured anywhere near as much as he would have liked and perhaps that has been to the detriment of his loan side. They hoped to see craft and guile from him, but all they've ended up with is an apology and some nice words.
