Huddersfield Town favourite Lewis O'Brien has revealed that Carlos Corberan hasn't spoken about personal targets for him to meet this season, but his ambition is to better his goals and assists from last year.

O'Brien has been forced to overcome a pre-season injury and has only just properly worked his way into the fold under Corberan.

He started Huddersfield's last three Championship fixtures and completed 90 minutes, with his role growing under the new Town boss.

The midfielder, today, delivered his verdict on working under the Spaniard: "It's brilliant, he's come in and given a different dynamic of football that not many of us have seen at Huddersfield for a long time.

"For him to come in and put his stamp on all the lads like he has done is brilliant."

So far, O'Brien has registered an assist and scored a goal, setting him on his way to beating last season's six goal involvements.

Quizzed on whether Corberan has set him any personal targets this season, he replied: "We haven't set any assist (targets) for me or any of the team, but personally been in a more attacking role in the formation, I've set my own personal goals to beat the assist and goals mark that I made last season."

The November international break came at a good time for O'Brien, he admitted, but now Huddersfield are preparing themselves for a fierce run of fixtures in the build-up to Christmas.

That starts with this weekend's clash with Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

The Verdict

O'Brien was a player that really came on under Danny Cowley last season and it's easy to see how he fits what Carlos Corberan wants from his midfield.

He's box-to-box, but with that little bit more licence to get forwards, Corberan will want to see a few more goals and assists from him.

The fact that O'Brien doesn't need that telling speaks volumes about how the midfielder views his personal progress.

To get to the top, he needs to consistently work on his game, which he sounds determined to do.
