The Christmas fixtures brought a mixed bag for Sunderland manager Jack Ross, with his side picking up seven points from nine, following defeat to table toppers Portsmouth in the opening match of the festive period.

The result sees the Black Cats sitting in third place in League One, seven points behind Pompey with two matches in hand.

So with Ross wanting to stay in touch with the league leaders, he will be hoping he can fend off interest in his star players, in particular 20-year-old striker Josh Maja, who has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances this season.

So will Sunderland be able to hold onto Maja?

We discuss.....

George Dagless

I do.

Sunderland have got a chance to go up this season and Maja is the spearhead of that.

I think Ross will manage to keep him this season.

Gary Hutchinson

Yes.

I can see how it would happen, he feels wanted by Jack Ross, believes regular football is a good option and can see the bigger picture.

I can also see him going, taking a big pay day and moving up a division the easy way.

The trouble with a transfer window is anything can happen and usually does.

Sam Rourke

I've got a feeling he'll be gone by Feb.

Maja will be a man in demand this January transfer window, and there will likely be a clamour of clubs keen to secure a deal for the promising talent.

Ross and Sunderland should and will do everything they can to keep him, but if a big-money bid comes in, they just may have to accept.
