Aston Villa are well in the mixer in the race to attain promotion to the Premier League.

The Villans have guaranteed a play-off spot now, and do have a very slim chance of acquiring an automatic spot.

Of course, as we approach the latter stages of the season, managers and boards of clubs will start looking at the summer transfer window to see how they can bolster their squads.

If Villa do get promotion, one player who could be a target is Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson who has been a key figure at Elland Road over the last two seasons.

The Swedish international will want to be playing at the highest level in England, and if Villa do get promoted, they could offer him that.

Should Steve Bruce and Tony Xia launch a move for the Leeds United ace? Or steer clear?

We discuss...

Jansson would be a good player for Villa to bring in especially if Terry doesn't decide to stay. He can help properly replace him on and off the pitch due to his leadership abilities.

The Swedish defender also appears to be ready for a move up to the Premier League if Villa do get promoted.

Jay Williams

In Chester and Terry, Villa have one of the best centre back pairings outside of the Premier League. But they lack strength in depth and could upgrade on Christopher Samba and Tommy Elphick this summer.

Jansson would certainly push Chester and Terry, especially if he returns to top form, but I am not sure he would leave Leeds unless he was offered a lucrative deal in the Premier League which would be too good to resist.

Alfie Burns

A lot will depend on promotion, but Jansson could be a good fit at Villa Park.

There are areas of the Swede’s game that are poor, but alongside someone like James Chester, he could excel.

My only concern with Villa making a move for Jansson would be the funds available to Bruce.

It would take a lot of money to get Jansson out of Leeds, and can Villa afford to be spending £15m+ on another central defender? Other areas should be the target.

Gary Hutchinson

I don't think they should, no.

Something about Jansson recently has made me wonder about his attitude, there's be a lot of 'will he, won't he' debate and he's done plenty to fuel that himself.

There's better options out there, I'm not even sure if he's that good anyway.

Chris Gallagher

Sign him up!

Villa need two centre-backs in the summer no matter what division they're in and Jansson would be a good signing.

He hasn't played as well as he did last season for Leeds, however it's been a tough season for Leeds in general. He's still a good player and would enhance the Villa squad.

George Dagless

It's worth a go.

I only see it happening if Villa are promoted to be honest as Leeds will want to avoid him going to Championship rivals next season.

With question marks over John Terry's future, though, there's a case for them to get after a new centre-half.
