Sheffield Wednesday could face some unlikely bids for the services of Josh Windass this summer, with the news that Atletico Talleres are keen to bring the player to the club as reported by the Yorkshire Post.

The Owls' season has now come to a close, with the club narrowly missing out on a League One promotion via the play-offs. Darren Moore will now have to regroup, get his side firing again and aim for a spot back in the Championship next campaign instead.

That will likely mean somewhat of a squad reshuffle for the third tier outfit - and one name that could seemingly be out of the exit door this summer is Windass.

The 28-year-old has produced the goods when he has been available, managing four goals and two assists in just nine League One games. However, the issue is just that - his fitness and availability.

The former Rangers man has spent a large part of the season sidelined with injury and it has limited the amount that he has been available for selection. It means that Moore could decide to cash-in on him this summer rather than keep him at Hillsborough with the risk of him not being available.

It hasn't put off Atletico Talleres though, who look keen to take him in a surprise move to Argentina. The club are managed by Pedro Caixinha, who knows the player from their time together in Scotland - and he is now eager for a reunion in a different country.

Speaking about the player and whether he would like to sign Windass, Caixinha said via the Yorkshire Post: "Yes it’s true I want him. I got to work with Josh Windass at Rangers in Scotland and I keep in touch with him.

"He's a quality player."

There could then be a real suitor for his services this summer - and that could allow Sheffield Wednesday to free up some squad room and wage space if they do decide to sell him on.

The Verdict

Josh Windass can be a very good player and he has shown that throughout his career, with some flashes of brilliance. He's bagged goals for Rangers, Wigan and now Sheffield Wednesday but he just can't seem to stay fit.

If he could get into a first-team regularly and keep himself available for selection, then whether or not he might be staying at Sheffield Wednesday probably wouldn't be up for debate. His record this season is good considering the games he has played in and over the course of the season, he would likely have a large number of goal controbutions.

However, considering the fact that the Owls may need to recruit some more players this summer and that Windass is taking up a space that could be used for someone else - and might end up sidelined again - there is every chance they could cash in on the player.

A move to Argentina would be an odd one and is completely unexpected but could work well for the player and the club. Wednesday could free up some money by letting him leave and sign a fresh player and Windass could have a new challenge and if he stays fit, could be a real focal point for a team in an entirely different country.
