Sheffield Wednesday are showing signs of stirring this season as they followed up their win over Millwall with a superb victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Few might have expected such a result with Villa flying in the league and the Owls still inconsistent but the signs are now there that they are going to challenge for the top six.

Indeed, Owls fans have great cause for optimism and excitement with them showing some genuine resolve as well as quality but, perhaps most crucially of all, Jordan Rhodes is back amongst the goals.

When Wednesday signed Rhodes in the summer the hope was that he'd find the same form that he did at Blackburn Rovers and that, with the Owls' added quality, they'd fly this season.

He has, however, struggled for form up until recently and that has partially kept the club back from really climbing the table. Now, though, he looks to be getting some confidence back and, though it is still early for him, he and Gary Hooper have the potential to be devastating.

On paper, Wednesday have one of the best attacks in the league - up there with the likes of Wolves - and we might just be beginning to see that come to fruition.

It's later than Carlos Carvalhal would have liked but the weekend proved to be a big statement. It showed that the Owls are not out of the top six chase by a long-stretch and that, most exciting of all, they're about to possibly see the attack they've all been waiting for.
