After a slow start to the season, Reading seem to be finding their feet after taking seven points from a possible nine in their last three outings and jumping up to 11th in the Championship, following the latest win over struggling Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

One player though, who does not seem to be in Royals manager Jose Gomes' plans, is 22-year-old USA striker Andrija Novakovich, who could be heading to the Eredivisie and PEC Zwolle, according to Dutch media outlet Voetbal International.

The 22-year-old has been at the Royals since 2015, but with limited opportunities at the Madejski Stadium, he has spent spells out on loan at Cheltenham Town, Telstar and Fortuna Sittard.

So are Reading right to potentially let Novakovich leave?

We discuss........

Sam Rourke

"It's time to move him on.

"Ultimately, the USA international is going to struggle to force his way into the Reading starting XI at present, with new signings George Puscas and Lucas Joao fighting it out for a starting berth.

"Novakovich has shown flashes of his quality over in his loan spells in the Netherlands, and at the age of 22, you'd have expected him to be nearer the Royals starting XI, but it just isn't the case, so a switch away seems the right move.

"With it being a Dutch club that are keen on him, you feel this is the perfect step for his personal development as a footballer, as languishing on the bench at the Madejski Stadium will do nothing for him personally."

Josh Cole

“This could prove to be a wise decision by Reading if they do indeed allow Novakovich to leave on loan this summer.

“Extremely impressive at youth level for the Royals, the forward kicked off the Premier League 2 Division 2 2019/20 campaign with a hat-trick against Newcastle United and would have been wanting to force his way into contention for a starting role for the senior side over the coming months.

“However, following the arrivals of Lucas Joao and George Puscas, there is little chance that Novakovich will be able to play regular first-team football for Reading this year.

“Taking this into consideration, a spell with PEC Zwolle could result in the forward return to the Madejski Stadium in 2020 as a much better player providing that he is able to hit the ground running in the Eredivisie.”

Ned Holmes

“I think letting the 22-year-old leave is the right move for Reading.

“The young forward has shown some goalscoring prowess on loan in the Dutch leagues over the past two seasons, scoring 19 goals in 35 games for Telstar in the second tier and nine goals in 27 games for Fortuna Sittard in the top tier.

“However, the signings of George Puscas and Lucas Joao only push Novakovich further down the pecking order with the Royals, so I think it is the right time to let him go.

“Reading currently have eight forwards in their senior squad, so it makes sense for them to clear some space before the transfer window closes elsewhere.”
