Sunderland endured another abysmal home defeat on Saturday as they were downed 3-1 by Jaap Stam's resurgent Reading at the Stadium of Light.

One player who has been the focus of a lot of criticism from the Black Cats faithful is central midfielder Lee Cattermole.

He simply has not been performing well for the Mackems, and has consistently been sub-par this season.

Should Chris Coleman be ruthless and axe Cattermole in the January transfer window....

We discuss.....

Who'd want him?

I'm not sure if there'd be many takers, but he can try!

Cattermole shouldn't be in the team and that's the first thing Coleman needs to do. At his best the midfielder is competitive, tenacious and really tough to play against, but that's just not happening at the moment.

It would be a big decision, but Coleman needs to make a lot of those in next few weeks as major changes need to happen at the Stadium of Light.

Alfie Burns

He offers very little in central midfield, and for me, should be nowhere near Sunderland’s starting XI.

Coleman has already indicated he will turn to youth to turn things around at the Stadium of Light, and Cattermole’s days seem numbered.

Big changes are needed at the Stadium of Light.

George Dagless

It'd be popular with the fans.

The Welsh manager has suggested he is going to ring the changes and I think a lot of the older stars need to be worried about their future.

They are the ones that have let the club down and Coleman needs to be ruthless for sure.

It's time to get rid of him.

Adam Simeoni

It would be harsh, because Cattermole is the type of player who will dig deep to get Sunderland out of the mess they are in.

His form has not been great as of late, and he needs to put a serious shift in between now and the new year.

He could be essential to survival, but has a lot to prove in the coming weeks.
