Sunderland are in the midst of a nightmare season as they occupy 23rd spot in the Sky Bet Championship table.

It's fair to say that the Black Cats squad is down to its bare bones at the moments, with injuries ravaging the side in recent weeks.

However, there are still a number of players that are being held back, and ultimately need to be given a chance on the pitch by Chris Coleman.

Who is the one Sunderland player that Coleman needs to hand a chance to?

We discuss...

George Dagless

Josh Maja - It's time he's given a go.

Sunderland need something new and I think Coleman needs to bin the old guard who have let the club down badly.

Maja is still raw but Coleman has talked him up so why not see what he can do at senior level?

Chris Gallagher

It's too early to say for Coleman as he's only just arrived and looks to be prepared to give most a chance.

However, I'd say it's important he keeps using Joel Asoro and from the start instead of the three substitute appearances he's made so far under the former Wales boss.

Asoro is very talented and could make a big impression for the Black Cats this season.

Alfie Burns

Coleman has to unleash Joel Asoro in the coming weeks.

The 18-year-old has impressed off the bench in recent weeks, and with Sunderland struggling to turn things around in the Championship, it is time Coleman put his faith in Asoro.

Things are getting desperate at Sunderland, and someone with Asoro’s rawness could help turn things around.

Adam Simeoni

Get Callum McManaman on the field more often.

The winger is a solid player who can do a job at this level, and it is surprising that he has appeared as little as he has this season.

Coleman will look to bring him into the fold a little more now he is in control, and McManaman has a lot to prove having failed to get into the team earlier in the season.
