It has been a tricky start for new Birmingham City manager Gianfranco Zola, and he goes into the transfer window with his side in 13th place in the Championship.

The Blues will no doubt be linked with a host of players in the transfer window, and Zola will be hoping his experience and contacts can attract some good names to St Andrews.

There are issues to address at the club, and many fans will be hoping the club can go out and sign a proven goal scorer at the very least.

The Blues are a solid Championship outfit as it stands, but they will need new players if they are to mount a charge at the playoffs.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at TWO deals Birmingham should look to secure this week…

David Nugent

One player who is likely to be hot on the lips of many a club in January is Middlesbrough man David Nugent.

A proven Championship striker with excellent pace and movement up top, Nugent could be the ideal man for the Blues.

Nugent though will be in demand, and Zola will need to act quickly to try and secure his signature.

Josh Onomah

The tricky Tottenham wide man is well in the plans of boss Pochettino at White Hart Lane, but a loan spell could well do him some good.

A move to Birmingham would benefit everyone, with Onomah given the chance to play in a well-established Championship outfit under an experienced foreign manager, while the Blues would benefit from his quality.

Onomah is an excellent player and prospect, and he could well cement his place in the Spurs squad next term with an impressive loan spell at St Andrews.
