Few would have predicted Reading's rampant start to the EFL Championship campaign.

Jaap Stam has reinstalled pride and quality in the Royals' camp, and has led them to 3rd place in the Championship standings, just 4 points off Brighton in 2nd place.

The Berkshire side have taken the league by storm, winning 10 times, whilst only suffering 4 defeats and 4 draws.

And with the January transfer window looming, this is the perfect time for Stam to get rid of the deadwood, and bring in fresh, new talent where necessary in order to bolster their squad for their push for promotion.

However, maybe the Dutchman should be looking closer to home for these fresh faces, before getting the chequebook out straight away.

Therefore, with that being said, here FLW writer George Harbey identifies TWO wonderkids under Reading's ranks that Jaap Stam should look to take a chance on at the Madejski Stadium.

Tennai Watson

The 19-year-old is highly regarded by the Madejski faithful, and many think that he should be playing ahead of Chris Gunter at right back.

Watson has made just 2 starting appearances for the Royals this term, despite being on the verge of an England under-20 call up.

The Championship is a harsh, gruelling environment where anything can happen, so in order to keep their place towards the top of the table, Stam needs defensive reinforcements.

Rather than buying a new defneder he needs to include Watson sooner rather than later as Reading have a serious talent on their hands here.

Tarique Fosu

The 21-year-old is another player under Stam's ranks who is unlucky not to have featured for the Royals this campaign and finds himself out on loan at Colchester United.

The winger was influential for Accrington Stanley in the latter stages of their promotion push last term, where he netted 3 times in 8 games for the club, who were defeated by AFC Wimbledon in the League Two play-off semi-final.

Nevertheless, Fosu is a real prospect, and Stam should undoubtedly think twice when sending him back out on loan when his loan expires in January.
