Philippe Montanier’s Nottingham Forest side have endured a poor start to their Championship campaign, and they are currently hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.

Forest’s squad isn’t the strongest to begin with, but they have plenty of players who aren’t good enough and Montanier should get rid of them in January.

Forest need a good squad of players as they look to avoid relegation.

However, they aren’t blessed with a huge amount of financial backing, so to invest in the team, they have to sell players.

This is something that could be crucial for them in January, getting rid of the poorer players and replacing them with better quality, that could be the difference between going down and finishing mid table.

Despite the amount of poor players Forest have, they also have some good ones who they need to keep hold of.

Henri Lansbury and Britt Assombalonga could be key to their success and I'm sure they will reject any approaches for them in January.

Here are THREE Nottingham Forest players who Philippe Montanier should look to axe in January…...

Danny Fox

The Forest full back isn’t the best and there is probably better out there that Forest could get.

Fox hasn’t featured all that much under Montanier with him seemingly a fringe player, as he spends most of his time on the bench.

Forest should sell Fox and look to bring someone in on loan for the remainder of the season, a player who is hungry to play and will provide more competition to the starting left-back

Jack Hobbs

Hobbs has struggled to make an impact at Forest and his chances are going to be very limited, so Montanier should look to sell him to free up finances for somewhere else.

Hobbs has never really got going at Forest and his career seems to have been blighted by injury.

With competition for places at centre back, it doesn’t look like Hobbs is anywhere near as good as Forest first choice centre half pairing, meaning Montanier will probably look to replace him.

Matty Fryatt

It seems as though Matty Fryatt’s Forest career is over.

He is the fourth-choice striker, behind three who are much better than he is.

Montanier should look to move him on and reinvest the money into another area of the pitch where Forest are crying out for players.

Barring severe injury crisis at Forest, Fryatt probably won’t play again for Forest and he may even seek the move away himself.

With Forest needing players in other areas, Fryatt seems like he could be top of Montanier's list of players he doesn’t want.
