After seemingly finding form that had put them back near the top six, Middlesbrough are winless in three and down in 11th place.

Whilst it's too early to dismiss Boro, who have an outrageously talented squad, they need to show some consistency if they're to challenge for the top two as many predicted pre-season.

Now could be the perfect time to string a run of results together, with four of Boro's next five games against sides that are currently positioned 17th or lower.

That starts on Saturday away to Barnsley and the problem Garry Monk needs to rectify is clear – they need to start scoring.

No team in the top five has conceded fewer goals than Boro, they're just struggling to put teams away.

With that in mind, Monk should drop summer signing Marvin Johnson to accommodate more natural goalscorers in the team.

Johnson played the full 90 minutes against Fulham and Norwich, where Boro scored just one goal. Next, he was taken off after 64 minutes against Brentford with the score at 0-1 and Boro went on to draw 2-2.

Bringing in Patrick Bamford or Ashley Fletcher would provide additional support to Britt Assombalonga and they could interchange with Martin Braithwaite to create a fluid style of play.

Johnson has clear strengths. He's direct, quick and very effective, but at the minute Boro need goals and he doesn't score enough considering he occupies an attacking position.

Monk can get the width from Fabio or George Friend at left-back and then get more freedom and movement from those in the final third.

The ex-Oxford man could then be used as a sub where he may make a big impact against a tiring defence.

The Teesside club have been too reliant on Assombalonga so far this season, so including more players with a striker's instinct could go some way to sharing the burden.
