Following a patchy run of form, which included a shock defeats to fierce city rivals Sheffield United and an away loss at struggling Birmingham City, it appears Carlos Carvalhal’s Sheffield Wednesday are back on track having smashed Leeds United 3-0 at Hillsborough before the international break.

A professional performance from the Yorkshire side, the Portuguese manager will hope his side can push on upon their return to second tier action when they travel to rock-bottom Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The Trotters have been dire this semester, and look destined for the drop having been outclassed and outplayed since their return to the Championship this summer.

Carvalhal may consider sending out the same XI that dispatched Leeds to ensure consistency in his side, but one change could be made to pull an out of form player from the side in favour of a fresh option.

Scottish striker Steven Fletcher has failed to find the net since the start of September, and an assist against Leeds was the first time the player has contributed to a goal since his goal against Nottingham Forest.

Yes, Fletcher contributes in other ways, winning aerial duels and holding up the ball to bring team mates into play, but in the striking business, it is goals that are ultimately remembered.

Bolton shocked a much-changed Wednesday side in the Carabao Cup way back in August, but Carvalhal will feel confident that a change to his side should not harm their chances too much.

With that in mind, he should consider bringing record signing Jordan Rhodes into the mix.

Rhodes has struggled since his big-money move from Middlesbrough was confirmed in the summer, but the striker has not simply lost his talent overnight.

A prolific scorer with Blackburn and Huddersfield at this level, Rhodes is a natural marksman, and one or two goals could be enough to inject a new lease of life into the stuttering star.

The opportunity to grab one against a poor Bolton side is there, and Carvalhal should certainly consider giving the player the nod, and a much needed confidence boost.
