Huddersfield Town are still searching for a permanent manager, after sacking head coach Jan Siewert three weeks ago.

Siewert took charge at Huddersfield in January, but he was unable to save the club from relegation from the Premier League.

He was sacked just four games into the new season and left the club with a record of just one win from his 19 matches in charge.

Former Huddersfield captain Mark Hudson is currently in caretaker charge at the John Smith's Stadium, but results have failed to improve under him.

The Terriers are still without a win this season and are currently second from bottom in the Championship table.

BBC Radio Leeds reported yesterday that Huddersfield have offered the vacant managerial position to Nigel Adkins, although other reports have claimed that this is not the case.

The 54-year-old was able to guide Hull City to a mid-table finish in the Championship last season, but left the KCOM Stadium earlier this summer after deciding not to renew his contact.

In the latest FLW Six Pointer, we take a closer look at Adkins' situation and discuss whether he would be a good appointment for Huddersfield...

First of all, was it the right decision for Huddersfield to sack Siewert?

"Without a doubt. It might have seemed a bit harsh to sack him after just four matches, but you have to look at the bigger picture.

"There have been problems at Huddersfield for months and there was hardly any evidence to suggest that Siewert had what it takes to turn things around. The football hasn't improved and the results have been very poor.

"Something had to be done and it looks like the club have tried to to make the decision as early as possible, to give them the best possible chance of having a successful season."

Is it time for a change of approach at Huddersfield?

"I think so, and the appointment of Adkins would definitely represent a change of approach.

"The Terriers' last two managers - David Wagner and Jan Siewert - both had no experience of English football and both brought fresh ideas to the table.

"Wagner did an incredible job in getting Huddersfield into the Premier League, but things have gone downhill since then.

"Perhaps it's time for a change of approach and that they go for someone who's already proven at this level - Adkins certainly fits the bill."

Do you think Adkins would be a good appointment for Huddersfield?

"I think so. Adkins is a good manger and he's got plenty of experience.

"He did a great job at Hull last season and he knows exactly what it takes to achieve success in this league - there aren't too many managers out there who know the Championship as well as he does.

"After a poor start, Adkins was able to guide a Hull side that many expected to struggle to a comfortable mid-table finish last season.

"After their poor start to the season, Huddersfield need an upturn in results quickly and Adkins should be able to provide that."

If he is appointed, what impact do you expect Adkins to make?

"I think appointing Adkins would see Huddersfield adopt a more results-driven mindset, which is exactly what the need at the moment.

"I also think he'd be able to getting the best out of the current players that they've got - perhaps in a way that Siewert failed to.

"I actually expected Huddersfield to challenge for the play-offs this season and I was very surprised when they made such a poor start, especially given that they were relegated from the Premier League in March and had so long to prepare.

"They've got some talented players and a decent striker in Karlan Grant - which is something they lacked the last time they won promotion.

"Adkins should be able to get the best out of those players, just look what he did with Frazier Campbell at Hull last season."

Would Adkins be a good appointment in the long-term?

"The difficultly with Huddersfield at the moment is that their poor start to the season has meant that they haven't really had time to focus on anything other than the short-term - they need results.

"They need a manager who is capable of getting the best out of their players and turning things around quickly. Adkins should be able to do that.

"However, it's also important that they consider the bigger pictures and appoint a manager who fits their long-term  aspirations - with their main goal presumably being to win promotion to the Premier League.

"Appointing Adkins could give them a chance to do that - provided he is able to steer the club away from the relegation zone quickly.

"He'd obviously need time to build and bring his own players in, but I see now reason why he couldn't be a good appointment in the long-term."

If he is appointed, how far can Adkins take Huddersfield this season?

"I think it's too early to talk about relegation and things like that, but one thing is for sure, it's going to be very difficult for Huddersfield to achieve promotion this season after such a poor start.

"The Championship is an extremely competitive and unforgiving league, and if they don't start to pick up results quickly, they could be in trouble.

"With that said, there's still plenty of time for the club to turn things around and with a manager like Adkins in charge, they should be able to avoid relegation.

"If he is appointed, I think he's capable of guiding them to a mid-table finish this season.

"The good thing for Huddersfield is that a few other teams have also got off to a slow start, so if they can pick up a few wins and start to build some momentum, they've got every chance of avoiding relegation."
