Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill has a huge job on his hands this summer as he looks to assess one of the largest squads in the Championship, and whittle it down to a playing squad capable of mounting a top-six challenge next season.

One decision that O'Neill has made though, is not signing Wolves striker Leo Bonatini on a permanent deal after the 25-year-old spent an uninspiring second half of the season on-loan at the City Ground, as reported in the Express and Star.

So are Forest right in not offering Bonatini a permanent deal?

We discuss........

Jacob Potter

"I think they’ve made the wrong call here.

"I know that Bonatini has hardly played for the Reds since he signed on loan from Wolves, but he’s a player with real quality in the Championship.

"I think they’ve missed a trick in choosing not to sign him permanently ahead of next season."

Ben Lang

"This would have been an easy call for O’Neill and the Forest hierarchy to make, and it is definitely the correct one.

"Bonatini was signed after impressing for Wolves in their promotion-winning season, but he has failed to reach those heights since after barely featuring during his loan spell.

"He looked lacking in fitness whenever he was given the nod early on in his loan spell, while he has clearly struggled to compete with the likes of Daryl Murphy, Karim Ansarifard and Lewis Grabban for a place in the side. There is clearly no future for him at the City Ground."

George Brooks

"It looks that way.

"Bonatini was fantastic for Wolves in the Championship during the first half of the 2017/18 season, but he has failed to make an impact for Forest and his loan spell at the City Ground can be best described as disappointing.

"He still could have what it takes to be a good player at Championship level and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.

"It remains to be seen whether or not it was the right choice for Forest not to sign him, at the moment though, it certainly doesn't look like a bad decision."

Gary Hutchinson

“Is he still stealing a living?

“He did nothing at Forest and after a bright start for Wolves, did nothing there either.

“I can’t see him being a success in the Championship again.

“He’s just not cut out for that level of intensity, it's the right decision.”
