Nothing should be read into the fact that Jamaican international Giles Barnes is training at West Brom, after journalist Matt Wilson confirmed on Twitter that Darren Moore was only allowing the 30-year-old to train with the club to maintain his fitness levels.

Barnes previously made 28 appearances for West Brom between 2009-11 but failed to score during his short spell at the Hawthorns.

Most recently, he’s been plying his trade in the MLS, representing Houston Dynamo, Vancouver Whitecaps and Orlando City, but is currently a free agent after being released by Colorado Rapids at the end of the 2018 season.

So was it the right decision for the Baggies not to sign Barnes?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

“I think this is the right move.

"I don’t think West Brom need more wingers, and Giles Barnes was a name earlier in his career to do his young breakthrough at Derby County.

"But he has not hit the heights, and it would have been a signed to make up the numbers in my opinion.

"So it is best West Brom stay clear and look for players to can genuinely affect them in a positive away at the top of the table.”

Jacob Potter

"It’s the right decision.

"This certainly was a bizarre move by the Baggies in the first place, as Barnes certainly isn’t an upgrade on any of the players currently at the club.

"If he’s going to be down the pecking order when he arrives, then what would have been the point in signing him if he’s just going to warm the substitutes bench?"
