For all the attacking signings made by Steve Bruce at Aston Villa in the summer, the failure to replace veteran defender John Terry after he left seems a glaring oversight on Bruce's part.

Not only the departure of Terry but letting Tommy Elphick go out on loan as well has left Bruce having to play players out of position, to give his side defensive cover.

So the question to our team is, have Villa failed to replace Terry?

We discuss.....

Alfie Burns

Not in the slightest. They haven’t even attempted to either, which is unforgivable.

Terry was huge on and off the field last season, and Villa don’t look the same without him on board.

It was Bruce’s biggest mistake of the summer.

Jay Taylor

It’s the elephant in the room at Villa Park.

It is blatantly obvious, isn’t it - of course, they have failed to replace John Terry.

Not only have they lost the experience the defender brings to the pitch, but they have also lost a leader on it too and in the dressing room.

Villa lack that at the back and it is evident after recent form.

George Dagless

Without doubt.

Terry was going to be hard to replace anyway but Villa haven't really come close.

They need another leader in their defence and haven't really got one at the moment.

Gary Hutchinson

Well, they’re playing a midfielder at centre back, so I think the question answers itself.

They’ve also failed to replace Tommy Elphick, he was playing early in the season but was farmed out on loan.

It was a confusing move on their part.

They could have signed any number of defenders but it all went badly wrong.
