One of Aston Villa manager Dean Smith's first decisions when installed at Villa Park, was to recall winger Andre Green from his loan spell at Portsmouth, where the youngster had helped the League One side into promotion contention with five goals in 12 appearances for Kenny Jackett's side.

Since his arrival back at Villa Park, the 20-year-old has made a handful of appearances, but has not been a consistent starter.

So, ultimately was Smith right to recall Green?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

“It’s still early days, I think he should be given a little more time to see if the move is a bust or not.

“Green was impressive for Portsmouth and has had a bit part to play since his return, so a regular place in the first team is the next stage.

“On face value, you could say no, as he hasn’t played as much as when he was at Fratton Park, but I think he needs time to grow and adapt at Villa Park before making any definitive judgement.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I think so. It pays to have him around the squad.

“When you see the lads he loaned out, Hepburn-Murphy for instance, he’s clearly not adverse to young talent being away from the club.

“It suggests to me he wants to watch Green closely.

“Remember, this is the first time he’s got to work with Green.”

Jacob Potter

"It was a ludicrous decision.

"I was stunned to see him recalled by Villa in January and knew that he was never going to be a regular starter for Dean Smith’s side.

"They’re stalling his development by not playing him, and Villa could live to regret this odd decision."
