Barnsley's return to the Championship was finally confirmed on Tuesday night without even playing a match.

With Portsmouth losing their game in hand to Peterborough and Sunderland being defeated by Fleetwood in theirs, it opened up a big enough gap to confirm their return.

So, with the job on the pitch being completed, they can now shift their focus to summer business as well as looking to hang on to their bigger names.

One of whom is undoubtedly goalkeeper and captain Adam Davies, whose contract is set to expire in a couple of months.

And speaking on Thursday he revealed that he "did not know" whether he would be with the club next season or not.

He has been one of Daniel Stendel's essential members this season but is this anything to worry about?

We discuss...

Gary Hutchinson

“It is a worry for Barnsley, but then again there’s always options available in the sticks.

“If he does go, they could go down the route of loaning a keeper from a top flight side.

“Sheffield United did well with Henderson, but perhaps Man Utd might have another talent they can borrow.

“Kieran O’Hara has been with Macclesfield this season and impressed hugely.

“If he was available to loan, he might be the next Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson.”

Toby Wilding

"This has to be a worry for Barnsley.

"Davies has been in great form this season, making a big contribution to a defensive that has been key to Barnsley promotion this season.

"That they do not have another goalkeeper with much senior experience within their ranks further increases the pressure on The Tykes here."

George Harbey

"I think it’s quite alarming that Davies doesn’t know whether he’ll be there or not next season.

"He has been influential in helping the Tykes boast the best defensive record in League One this season, and will be even more important for them in the Championship next term.

"It’s a massive concern, and Barnsley fans will be hoping that it gets cleared up sooner rather than later."
