Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder will be unhappy with the news that Blades defender John Egan has returned home early from international duty with a calf injury as reported in the Sheffield Star.

Egan, 26, was found to have a problem following the Republic of Ireland's draw with Northern Ireland last Thursday night and immediately left his country's training camp in Dublin to return to Bramall Lane.

So how big a blow is the loss of Egan to Sheffield United's promotion push?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

He’s been in excellent form, so it’s potentially a huge blow to Chris Wilder’s side.

Egan has been part of a defensive three who Chris Wilder has been able to rely on all season and he will be hugely frustrated by the news of his injury.

If Sheffield United are to retain their place in the top six, then they will need Egan back as soon as possible as he is a crucial member of the Blades team this season.

George Harbey

It's a big blow and one that United don't need at all.

Egan has been part of a solid back-three this season, so his absence is sure to be felt.

Luckily, Richard Stearman is an adequate replacement for the time being.

George Dagless

It is a setback for sure.

Egan is a fine player and has begun to show why the Blades signed him in the summer window.

He's been a key part of the Blades' team and his missing presence will be felt.
