Liverpool have confirmed on the club's official website, the signing of promising young goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom who has joined the club from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Winterbottom, 17,  is now expected to battle for a starting place in the Reds’ various academy teams and was named on the bench during the U18’s ‘mini-derby’ against Everton over the weekend, kicking off his Liverpool career with a win over the club’s local rivals.

The former Blackburn man is clearly a player that the Reds have had their eyes on for some time, with the youngster impressing during previous appearances against the club.

So have Blackburn made a mistake in allowing Winterbottom to join Liverpool?

Jay Taylor

“It’s out of their hands.

“He isn’t 18 and not on professional terms so If the player wants to leave, or an offer for his services arises, then he will take it.

“It’s a sad indictment of how football works, but that is how it works.

“A mistake, no – as they have little control over it.”

Louie Chandler

"Time will tell I suppose.

"It never looks great to the fans when they see their club offloading a talented youngster but I don't think they will suffer greatly.

"In David Raya they still have one of the league's best shot-stoppers so the pain will be eased pretty quickly."

Alfie Burns

“Time will tell, but Liverpool wanting him suggests so.

“These types of clubs don’t waste their time on players and know what talent is.

“Blackburn might be kicking themselves in a few years.”
