After their impressive promotion from League One last season Charlton Athletic can now look ahead to establishing themselves in the second tier.

With the ensuing off-field problems surrounding the club, huge credit has to go to manager Lee Bowyer for managing to galvanise his squad and get them to where they are.

It remains baffling, then, that he is still yet agree a new contract with the team he has done so brilliantly for.

But the South London Press reported on Friday that he had held further talks with the Addicks over a new, and incredibly well deserved, contract.

So, what should Charlton fans be confident of a deal being struck?

We discuss...

Jacob Potter

"It's only a matter of time before an agreement is reached.

"Bowyer is loved by the Charlton fans and he'll surely be wanting to finish the project he has started with the club.

"He's a man in demand, so Charlton need to be doing everything they can to tie him down to a new deal at the earliest of opportunities."

Toby Wilding

"I think there will be a growing confidence among Charlton fans that Bowyer will be at The Valley next season.

"Having taken Charlton back to the second tier, it seems as though Bowyer wants to finish the job by keeping them in the second tier next season.

"Given it has been suggested that he turned down a move to West Brom - who have Premier League ambitions - it seems unlikely there are many sides who may now be able to take Bowyer away from the Addicks."

Louie Chandler

"I would not be getting excited until it is a done deal.

"Bowyer, I am sure, would be delighted to stay with the club but it will depend on the owners giving him a serious offer, with Bowyer himself describing previous offers as strange.

"I think he will end up sorting a deal but you can never get too confident of such things with Charlton."
