Sheffield United have started the 2018/19 Championship season strongly, having won three of their opening five league games.

Chris Wilder, who has been in charge of Untied since May 2016, has guided his team to seventh place in the league table, with a large part of their relative success this season down their summer transfer business.

Whilst the Blades did not go all out in the transfer window, they strengthened the squad where they needed to, and have reaped the rewards thus far, picking up nine points from a possible 15.

The transfer business at Sheffield United from years gone by has not been on the same level as this summer’s however, with a number of former managers making questionable acquisitions.

Having been without English top flight football for over a decade, it is clear that the recruitment has not always been on point at Bramall Lane.

With that in mind, we discuss the worst signings that Sheffield United have made in the previous three years.

Re-signing Ched Evans was a mistake by the Blades.

There was logic behind the move, but he’s had zero impact back at Bramall Lane and is now on loan elsewhere.

It’s one I’d imagine the club are regretting now.

Chris Gallagher

Ched Evans - just why?

The Blades had been promoted to the Championship when they made a move for their former player and it was baffling.

He barely played, barely scored and has since moved on to Fleetwood in League One - which is his level. It was a strange signing.

Christian Fuller

The re-signing of Ched Evans will always go down as one of the more bizarre decision Sheffield United made.

With no real impact in the team, and now playing elsewhere, it comes as no surprise that Evans’ name is mentioned in this list.

A truly uninspiring signing.
