Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit Jack Blenkiron has dubbed the decision to sack manager Garry Monk as a disgrace.

The club confirmed his departure on Tuesday night following previous rumours that Monk was ready to quit, leaving vast amounts of Blues' fans extremely angry.

"The phrase ‘disappointed but not surprised’ sums up the last day at Blues," the regular punter told Football League World.

"We all heard the rumours that he was likely to leave, despite Monk himself being adamant that he wouldn’t walk. He stuck to his word and was pushed."

Having pushed for the play-offs during their previous campaign it is hard to see how the club's hierarchy can justify the move.

The Blues finish in 17th place despite operating under a transfer embargo throughout both windows and they were also handed a nine-point penalty for breaking FFP regulations during Harry Redknapp's reign. Without it, they would have finished 14th.

So for Blenkiron, he suspects that personal disagreements between Monk and the powers that be played a big role.

"The relationship between Monk and the board of directors, in particularly Dong Ren, was apparently shot," he said.

"It’s nothing short of a disgrace how the man who re-established the connection between the fans after the awful tenures of [Gianfranco] Zola and [Steve] Cotterill was shown the door in this fashion."

Monk's assistant throughout his time at St. Andrew's, Pep Clotet, will take charge of first team matters for the time being whilst the rest of his backroom staff will remain as well.

However, whether or not the board see the former Oxford United boss as a long-term solution remains to be seen but Blenkiron has a couple of names on his wish-list.

"It’s likely that the replacement will be Monk’s assistant, Pep Clotet," he said.

"His record at Oxford United isn’t reassuring at all and there are multiple other options that may prove better.

"Chris Hughton is a man wanted back at the helm of St. Andrew's, his short spell at Blues saw us reach the play-off semis.

"Another option is Lincoln manager Danny Cowley. But whoever is brought in to guide the ship, it’ll be a tough job to replicate the link that Monk had with the fans."
