Sampdoria are one of the clubs keen on taking Swansea City attacker Andre Ayew on loan, according to a report in the Daily Star, in a deal where the Serie A club want Swansea to continue paying a portion of the player's £80,000-a-week wages.

The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Turkish side Fenerbahce scoring five goals in 26 appearances but returned to the Liberty Stadium this summer..

Ayew, whose contract expires in June 2021, made his third appearance of the season for unbeaten Swansea on Sunday, helping them to a 3-0 win over Birmingham in the Championship.

So are the Swans right to want to offload Ayew?

We discuss........

Chris Gallager

"From a football perspective, it's not what Steve Cooper needs.

"The Swans aren't exactly blessed with loads of options in the final third right now, so to lose a versatile attacker like Ayew is not going to help the team considering he can't be replaced. He has started the last three league games and played well as the team have picked up nine points.

"However, when you take into account the huge wages, reported to be over £80,000 a week, he is on, then it's probably the right call.

"They can't really afford to be paying that to anyone in the Championship so you can understand why the club are keen to move him on as soon as possible."

George Brooks

"I'm not sure about this one. Ayew is a good player and he's done well for Swansea in the games he's played so far this season.

"If they do keep him, he could turn out to be an important player for the Swans this season.

"However, Ayew is on reportedly on £80,000-a-week and Swansea can't really justify paying such a huge salary, so selling him would allow them to trim their wage bill significantly.

"The main concern for Swansea would be that they would be selling him without having the time to sign a replacement and that would leave Steve Cooper short of attacking options, as he looks to build on his side's brilliant start to the season."

George Harbey

“If you had asked me this question at the start of the summer, I would have definitely said get rid of him as he just seemed so out of favour and so out of the loop.

“But Ayew has really come good over the last few weeks, showing his true quality and putting in some fantastic performances for Steve Cooper’s side.

“I would be surprised to see them get rid of him before the end of the transfer window to be honest – they may well get big bucks for him, but they wouldn’t be able to replace him until January.

“Cooper deserves a lot of credit for reintroducing the likes of Borja Baston and Ayew, who can be very, very good players at this level on their day.”
