With the wealth of talent available at Stamford Bridge, it is not surprising that youngsters are sent out on-loan to gain valuable first team experience.

This has been the case for 19-year-old full-back Reece James who has spent a successful season out on loan at Wigan Athletic.

James has scored three goals and made three assists in 44 appearances in the Championship this season and it is this form that has led to Brighton making a £10 million bid for the academy graduate, as reported in the Sun.

Though Chelsea have rejected this bid, it proves the youngster could well be on many clubs' shopping lists this summer, so were Chelsea right to reject the bid considering James' performances for Wigan this season?

"It's no surprise.

"James has shown he is ready for the step up to the Premier League during his time at Wigan this season, and with a transfer embargo looming, Chelsea may well need to use him themselves.

"You feel it would take a much bigger offer to convince Chelsea to part with him."

Gary Hutchinson

“I’m shocked, but I hope it means he’s going to get his chance.

“I thought they’d cash in whilst his stock is high, but if they’re not doing so it sends out the right message.

“I’d love to see him play for them next season and I’m not talking about Europa League group stages and the odd League Cup tie either.

“He’s warranted a proper chance.”

Louie Chandler

"This is a tricky one.

"It is the right call in that Chelsea could definitely get more for the talented full-back in the summer, but you feel that it will not have been rejected with any real intention of playing him either.

"But overall I would say it is the right call."
