Leeds United fans will be encouraged by the news that midfielder Kalvin Phillips is not pushing for a move away from Elland Road, as reported by the YEP, despite wanting to be playing in the English top-flight.

Phillips has been subject of transfer interest all summer, with Aston Villa making no secret of their interest in the 23-year-old, who made 46 appearances in all competitions for the Whites last season.

So how big a boost is it that Phillips is not pushing for an Elland Road exit?

We discuss........

Sam Rourke

"It's just what Leeds fans will want to hear.

"Phillips is arguably Leeds United's most important player, and he showcased just how influential he can be last season.

"The midfielder, who can also operate as a centre-back, was in imperious form ast season, putting in consistently strong displays - his ability to break up play with ease and then push forward to initiate attacking move was superb.

"Leeds fans love him, he seems to love being at the club, it's not a major surprise that he is looking for a move away.

"I think he knows that he'll be in the Premier League at some stage of his career, so isn't in a rush and you get the impression he wants to avenge last year's play-off disappointment for the Whites this season."

Kealan Hughes

"This is huge for the club and essential in their decision to keep hold of him, as keeping an unhappy player at the club would lead to poor performances and disrupt morale.

"It means that the club will not be forced to sell him and that means Leeds will have one of their best and perhaps most important players at the club next season.

"It is quite a surprise given that many players now would jump at the chance to earn more money, so it says a lot about what the club is building and its plans to reach the Premier League, which the players seem to have bought into.

"This will hopefully end any speculation and if they can agree a new contract with Phillips it will have suddenly turned into a very good summer for the club."

Jacob Potter

"This is a huge boost for the Whites.

"Phillips hardly put a foot wrong for Leeds last season and without him, the Whites wouldn’t have been challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

"It’s going to be a nervous few months ahead for the Elland Road faithful, as speculation continues to build with a potential move away from Leeds.

"But the report claiming that he isn’t planning a move anywhere anytime soon will be an encouraging update.

"If Marcelo Bielsa can convince him to give it one more season, then it will be a huge boost to their promotion chances this term, as he has such a huge impact on their team."
