West Ham are expected to completed the signing of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph after agreeing a fee of just under £4million with the Teesside outfit, according to the Telegraph.

Randolph is set to become understudy to first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, with the 32-year-old now preparing for his second stint with the Hammers after previously spending two years at the club before his switch to Boro in 2017.

The Republic of Ireland international has produced consistently impressive displays throughout his time at the Riverside Stadium, with these seeing the goalkeeper named in the Championship Team of the Season in the 2018/19 campaign.

Randolph continued to perform well this season before suffering an injury in November which has kept him out of Boro's last 10 matches, but he has still managed to make 14 appearances for the Riverside Stadium outfit this term.

Aynsley Pears has filled in between the sticks during Randolph's absence, and the fact he has kept three clean sheets during Boro's last three league games means he could be a permanent replacement for the London-bound goalkeeper.

Here, we discuss whether Randolph's move to West Ham justifies the reported £4million fee...

Jacob Potter

“I’m not sure about the price they’re paying for Randolph to be honest.

“He’s been a rare bright spark in a relatively poor first-half of the season for Middlesbrough, but that doesn’t justify a £4m price tag for his services in my eyes.

“He doesn’t have the best of records in the Premier League either, as he has conceded 61 goals in his 42 appearances in the top-flight with West Ham earlier in his career.

"He knows the club well though, and won’t have any issues settling into their squad heading into the second-half of this year’s campaign.

“I can’t see him forcing his way into the starting XI though, with Lukasz Fabianski being a much better option to have between the posts for West Ham.

“He’s played at a top level for the majority of his career in English football and is the better goalkeeper in my opinion.”

Chris Gallagher

"It's just about acceptable.
"At 32, Randolph is obviously no longer a young player but as a keeper he could still have a few years left at the top and his form for Boro, and Ireland, has been superb.
"So, he is a very good signing for the Hammers and it is a massive blow for the Championship outfit but they need to reduce the wage bill and the stopper will have been a high earner.
"The emergence of Aynsley Pears also makes this an easier decision as he has performed very well in recent weeks and has so much potential when you consider he is only 21-years-old.
"Therefore, it probably was the right decision from Boro and Woodgate now needs to push to be able to reinvest those funds as the squad is weak in several areas."

George Dagless

"I think it makes sense.

"Let's be honest what is £4m to an established club like West Ham that has the finances to spend far greater figures on signings?

"For me, it makes perfect sense with the Hammers struggling in terms of goalkeepers after Fabianski's lengthy injury.

"I think Randolph will prove an ideal signing to come in and shore things up - something David Moyes has been tasked to do - and we'll also see him settle quickly given that he has been at the club before.

"Yes, he's 32 but with modern nutrition and the fact that he is a goalkeeper coming into play the Hammers could still see Randolph stick around for a fair few years yet. It's a pretty understandable deal."
