Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk has received a boost ahead of their Friday night trip to face Cardiff City, with the news that striker Fernando Forestieri is available for selection, having served a six match suspension, as confirmed on the club website.

Forestieri got 90 minutes under his belt at the weekend in the U23's win over Hull City, putting him in contention for selection against the Bluebirds in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

So how big a boost is the return of Forestieri for the Owls?

We discuss........

Dean Cooke

"Surprisingly, they haven't seemed to really miss him so far this season, although saying that I have no idea how Monk is going to use him in this campaign.

"He's obviously got the skills and the flair to light up Hillsborough, but the way that Monk has got the Owls lined up it's actually quite hard to see where he'll fit in to the starting eleven.

"It'll probably be in a role just behind Steven Fletcher, where Carlos Carvalhal used to play the tricky forward but he'll have a job on his hands getting back into the starting XI, after the good start made to the season from Sheffield Wednesday.

"It is definitely a boost though, as any added quality makes a serious difference when playing in the Championship."

Louie Chandler

"It's great news for the Owls.

"On his day, there are few attacking players better than Forestieri in the Championship and if Monk can get the best out of him, then they will have a real chance of challenging this season.

"They have not missed him hugely but I think it is becoming clear that another option in that attacking midfield/second striker area is needed.

"I don't suspect he will start but expect to see him coming off the bench and starting more frequently throughout the campaign."

George Harbey

"I think it's a major boost for Wednesday to have Forestieri back available for selection.

"They have been fairly impressive in attack since the arrival of Garry Monk, but you still feel that they are missing that final piece of the jigsaw up top.

"Forestieri is obviously a bit of a livewire, but if you can get him concentrating and fully focused on his football, then he's a quality player to have.

"He scores goals, he adds to assists, and he could be an excellent strike partner for Steven Fletcher in my view."
