Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has recently been confirmed as Sunderland's new owner, which brings an end to months of rumours about the club's off-the-field situation.

Louis-Dreyfus has been in attendance at a number of the club's matches in recent weeks, with his takeover of the club being announced not so long ago.

Sunderland are currently sat sixth in the League One table, and will be eager to build on some positive recent results in the third-tier, as they target promotion back into the Championship under the management of Lee Johnson.

The Black Cats beat struggling Burton Albion 3-0 in their last match, which means they're now eight points adrift of the automatic promotion places in League One.

Speaking in a recent interview (quotes sourced from Chronicle Live), Sunderland defender Dion Sanderson revealed that a meeting took place between Louis-Dreyfus and the first-team squad, with the owner leaving a good impression.

"There's always things going on and the players are interested in what's going on around the club."

"We had the meeting about it and all the players are delighted. It's change, we adapt to it and it's good for the club.

"We had a little meeting with him and he spoke to us. We had a good chat, all the boys, and he's shown us a good understanding of what he wants and what he wants from us."

Sanderson has made 15 appearances for Sunderland since signing on loan from Premier League side Wolves late in the January transfer window.

Sunderland are set to return to action in midweek, when they take on Fleetwood Town, in what could prove to be a tricky test for Lee Johnson's side at the Stadium of Light.

The Verdict:

This will be pleasing to hear for the Sunderland supporters.

It's good to have the rumours on the club's ownership resolved at this point of the season, because now all of their focus can be on achieving promotion back into the Championship.

The Black Cats have got a serious chance of returning to the second-tier this term, and if they can achieve that, then I wouldn't be surprised to see Louis-Dreyfus invest in the first-team squad.

It's an exciting time to be a Sunderland fan.
