Managerless Reading sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference in the Championship, having only won four times this season and with 19 points to show for their 22 matches played.

Currently, U23's manager Scott Marshall has taken temporary charge of the Royals, but the club have already been linked with a number of foreign options to take charge at the Madejski Stadium.

But will Reading be making a mistake if they do not appoint an experienced Championship manager?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

Yes, absolutely.

It’s not necessarily an experienced Championship manager, but someone who understands the English game.

They’re going to need fight and resilience, they’ll need players used to the battle.

It’s going to be a long second half of the season, for sure.

Alfie Burns

This is a debate that crops up every time a club is on the lookout for a new boss.

Yes, there is a risk to appointing from abroad, but there’s a risk bringing in a manager like Paul Clement – as Reading know.

For me, in the situation Reading are in now, Steve Bruce would be a perfect short-term solution to pull them clear of relegation.

In this case, that Championship experience outweighs the risk of a foreign appointment.

Jacob Potter

I definitely think they are.

Okay, the appointment of the likes of Pereira or Gomes could turn out to be shrewd ones for Reading, however I just don’t think they’re making the right choice.

Whilst the likes of Bruce and Jokanovic are out there, they should definitely be pouncing on that opportunity while they can.
