Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has deemed himself happy with is current squad ahead of the new season.

The Owls fans would beg to differ, however, after a poor showing last season having finished in the play-offs the two years prior.

That included a play-off final at Wembley with the Hillsborough club some way off challenging for promotion last year.

There is a certain need for improvement and investment in the Wednesday squad ahead of the new season kicking off in less than two weeks.

After three years of big spending, Wednesday have had to trim their spending with Financial Fair Play a real threat, should they splash money that they don’t have.

If Sheffield Wednesday are to have an improved season, they certainly need to add to their contingent of players.

With that in mind, here are three transfer deals that Luhukay should actively look to complete before the transfer window closes.

The Peterborough captain has been approached by Wednesday, according to Posh Chairman Darrah McAnthony, reported the Star.

Luhukay obviously needs reinforcements and it is better late than never in terms of knowing you need players in.

The defender is in his final year at the League One side and it would be a cut-price deal should the Owls firm up interest with an official offer.

If the Wednesday boss is serious that his side are all right going into the season, he is mistaken.

Baldwin is high on his shopping list and Luhukay should pursue this move as a matter of urgency.

Having lost Jack Hunt to Bristol City, Wednesday need a replacement right-back.

Byram is deemed surplus to requirements at West Ham with Hammers’ boss Manuel Pellegrini looking to send the defender out on loan.

It is reported that Nottingham Forest are close to signing the player on loan but before that is confirmed and over the line, Wednesday should put in a last ditch attempt to hijack the deal.

A right-back is needed and with a loan option for Byram available, Luhukay would be crazy not to explore the possibility of adding the former Leeds man to his ranks.

Since Aitor Karanka’s arrival at Nottingham Forest, McKay has fallen out of favour.

He has started just twice under the Spanish boss; he was even told he has a future at the City Ground, despite the lack of football.

With Forest having seem a plethora of new talent arrive at the club, McKay is seemingly less likely to feature, slipping further down the pecking order.

Wednesday lacked a goalscorer last season, despite the firepower they had at their disposal.

McKay scored five goals last season, assisting seven. He is only 23-years-old with a tonne of untapped potential.

He would be the perfect fit to fix Wednesday’s attacking woes.

Luhukay should do what he can to get a transfer for the player sorted.
