The new Championship season is less than two weeks away and Birmingham City are fast running out of time to add to their squad.

Garry Monk has inherited a club who have financial issues heading into the new campaign, and with signings thin on the ground, the Blues will need to act fast if they are to improve the side.

Monk steered Birmingham away from relegation to League One last year and will look to build on that this season.

Anything other than a relegation battle should be deemed as a successful season.

With reports of a transfer embargo, the Blues boss has added players surplus to requirement on the transfer list as he looks to ship players out before any make their way into St. Andrews.

With that said, here are three transfers that Monk should look to seal as soon as possible with the transfer window set to shut in just over two weeks’ time.

Birmingham City are keeping an eye on the Ipswich Town man’s situation at present.

They are interest in the striker, who also has admirers from Sheffield United and Middlesborough.

City only managed 38 goals in the Championship last season, the joint lowest with relegated Burton Albion.

Goals have been an issue in recent years for City, and securing the services of Waghorn could go along way to elevating the pressure on other strikers in the final third.

Monk should do all he can to get this transfer over the line.

The permanent signing of last season’s loanee Gallagher could give not only a boost to the squad and help their goal scoring woes, but also to the fans, who are desperate for new faces.

His potential is second-to-none in this division and being at one of English football’s most acclaimed academies, the Southampton player would be the prefect fit for Monk’s side.

The forward has been linked with a move away from the south coast with Birmingham seemingly in pole position for his signature after a successful loan spell last term.

The Brighton midfielder has played a key role in two previous promotion campaigns in the last two years.

A loan at Fulham last season ended in promotion to the Premier League, the year before that, Norwood help guide his parent club Brighton to the top flight.

He is a proven Championship player with plenty of international experience and the £1.5million fee that has been reported is an absolute steal for the 27-year-old, whatever way you look at it.

Monk has the transfer embargo to negotiate if he is to see the Northern Ireland international join him at St. Andrews.

But it is a move the Blues’ boss should pursue immediately.
