Football League World's Brentford fan pundit Josh Koffman has warned star striker Neal Maupay against moving to Brighton this summer with the Seagulls' apparently ready to test the club's resolve.

The Mirror's live transfer blog (18/07, 21:00) reported the news on Thursday evening but with the likes of Scott Hogan and Andre Gray failing to establish themselves after leaving Griffin Park, Koffman believes Maupay should be wary of making the same mistake.

"If I was Maupay I would give myself at least one more season at the Bees," the regular punter told Football League World.

"As a 22-year-old he would be in danger of falling in the same trap as many have done before in leaving Brentford and stalling their career.

"He suits the way Thomas Frank likes to play and another 20-plus goal season in the Championship would cement him as an established goal scorer in English football and make him a prized asset for potentially top half Premier League clubs."

Last season saw the Frenchman bag 28 goals for the Bees, catching the attentions of an array of clubs in the process.

With Maupay having only signed from St.Etienne for just under £2million in 2017, Thomas Frank's side could be in a for a very large profit.

And that is what they intend to get, with Brentford reportedly demanding £20million for his services. But would this be good enough?

"The word coming out from Brentford is that it would take a £20 million offer to prise him away and not a penny less," Koffman said.

"£20million is certainly a fair price for a player who has been so crucial to the way we play and vital for us as our primary goal scorer.

"Whether Brighton or Aston Villa see that valuation as fair remains to be seen, but it’s clear that despite heavy links, Sheffield United have ruled themselves out."

However, the priority for Koffman remains to keep hold of the stand-out star.

This summer has seen the club make some impressive signings with the likes of Ethan Pinnock, Pontus Jansson and Mathias Jensen all arriving with Ezri Konsa the only big name departure so far.

There is a real sense that Brentford could challenge for promotion next season but our regular punter remains concerned that Maupay's departure could derail those hopes.

"Maupay leaving the club to Brighton or any other team would be a massive body blow for Brentford," he said.

"It’s extremely concerning as the club do not have another striker already at the club.

"Brentford always do well with replacing players once they move on, however, Maupay’s replacement would absolutely have to hit the ground running and instantly replace the goals as we currently don’t have anybody else at the club who can carry the load."
