Bolton Wanderers have had a torrid season and an update emerging on Tuesday could just make everything even worse.

Alan Nixon of the Sun, reported today that Laurence Bassini, who had shown a serious interest in purchasing the club from Ken Anderson, was ‘still trying, but not close’ to sealing a deal.

The Trotters have been in turmoil off the pitch this season with players and stadium staff frequently going unpaid coupled with increasingly loud protests from the stands.

Phil Parkinson’s side look destined to play League One football next season, with eight points to make up in their final six matches, but just how big a blow is this latest news?

Jacob Potter

“This is a worrying update.

“Bolton need this takeover to be sorted at the earliest of opportunities, because it's having an impact on the performances on the pitch.

“They're in serious trouble, and although I have my doubts about Bassini, they need someone to take charge of a club that is in free fall under Ken Anderson.”

George Harbey

"I think it’s dragging on for far too long now, and I feel incredibly sorry for Bolton fans.

"Ken Anderson is simply ruining that club, but the news of a takeover could give them a massive boost ahead of the business end of the season.

"I think they are already down to be honest, but they will need investment and support from above in order to go up at the first time of asking next season."

Toby Wilding

"It's beginning to feel like this saga will never end.

"The parties involved need to get something sorted quick before the club are back in court, and every day they don't the unthinkable becomes more likely.

"While Bassini may not be every fans first choice among Bolton fans, it is hard to see any alternatives being enticed forward by the way negotiations seem to be going right now."
