The January window is fast approaching and December provides Carlos Carvalhal with one last chance of running the rule over his peripheral players to decide their future at Hillsborough.

He will undoubtedly have a winter reshuffle on his mind and certain squad players will be lined up for the axe so funds and wages are freed up to bring in a higher quality of player.

Sheffield Wednesday’s unequivocal ambition is to win promotion to the Premier League after falling agonisingly close at the last hurdle in 2015/16.

The Owls were edged out 1-0 by Hull at Wembley and consigned to another year in the second tier.

But they sit one point and one place outside the play-off zone as they aim to bounce back, which sets a reasonable platform for a promotion push, despite a shaky start.

With a big squad at his disposal, Carvalhal should look to get rid of these 2 players that he doesn’t need.
