Luton fell to another defeat at the weekend, meaning that the Hatters have now failed to win in their last four league outings - and after speaking to Luton Today, it looks as though Nathan Jones has pinpointed just what is costing his side at the moment.

The club were battling up near the top six in the table but having failed to pick up many points in their last few ties, they have steadily dropped further and further down the division.

One area at fault that boss Jones has picked out is crosses from the opposition, whilst he also believes that they are quick to give a goal to the opposition in the little chances that their opponents do get.

It means that even if Luton are able to limit them to just one or two chances per game, their opponents are still able to capitalise on those limited chances - and the manager is no doubt eager to stop this decline.

Speaking to Luton Today about it, he said: "We don’t concede many crosses, we don’t concede many chances, but when we do, when someone does put a ball in, it's costing us at the minute and we’re putting in more and better than others.

"Bournemouth away, on top, start brilliantly, have a chance, don’t take it, three minutes later we’re two down. Goals changes games in every single level of football, if we don't take ours and we’re weak in one end, then that's what happens."

Nathan Jones then will be desperate to return his side to the team that looked like genuine play-off contenders. If he can find a solution to the Hatters' current issues defensively in terms of crossing, then they could certainly start climbing up the league table yet again.

The Verdict

Nathan Jones is a great manager and has created a strong and solid team at Luton. Right now they're having a bit of a dip in form and defensively are conceding a few but it's sure to get better for them again soon.

The Championship is a close league and a few wins could see them fly back into the top half of the table. They can start in their next game - and if they can hold out in defence, then that will go a long way to helping them.
